We provide medication and procedural (in-clinic) abortion services at our southern Illinois location at 317 Salem Place, Fairview Heights, IL 62208. If you need help with travel, lodging, financial assistance, or other practical support for your abortion appointment, please contact our Regional Logistics Center at 618-607-5080. Case managers will help assess your needs and create a plan to ensure you can access your appointment without logistical and financial barriers getting in the way.

What are my abortion options?

Procedural (in-clinic) abortion

Reproductive Health Services provides procedural, also known as "in-clinic," abortion in Illinois up to 26 weeks of pregnancy.

The abortion pill

A medication abortion with the abortion pill can be done up to 11 weeks of pregnancy. We offer medication abortion at our Fairview Heights, IL, location and through telemedicine and pill-by-mail for patients with an Illinois address.

Telehealth for the abortion pill

In Illinois, Reproductive Health Services offers telehealth for the abortion pill up to 11 weeks of pregnancy. You will have a virtual visit with a provider and the pills are mailed to you or you pick them up at the Fairview Heights health center. To qualify, you must have an Illinois address and be in Illinois at the time of your telehealth appointment.

With a telemedicine abortion, you get the same high-quality, professional care and the same medication you would get in-person. This gives you the option of managing your abortion at home.

What are all my pregnancy options?

When you become pregnant, you have several options: parenting, adoption, or abortion. Learn more about your three options here.

Counseling and education are available to you and your family before and after an abortion. Our staff will:

  • Help identify and explore all options available so that you can make the decision that is right for you.
  • Offer the opportunity to get additional counseling through referral to other agencies.
  • Provide medically accurate reproductive health care information including, but not limited to birth control methods and prenatal care.

Is there a mandatory waiting period before I can have an abortion?

In Illinois, there is no mandatory waiting period or mandated counseling prior to an abortion.

Does my partner have any legal say in my decision regarding a pregnancy?

No. Your partner cannot legally interfere with your decision-making regarding a pregnancy. If you wish, your partner or other loved ones can offer much needed support before, during and after your abortion. RHS staff is available to assist and support you throughout the process.

If I'm Medicaid eligible, can Medicaid pay for my abortion?

In Illinois, Medicaid may pay for all or most medically necessary abortions.

If you think you may qualify for abortion coverage under Medicaid, please speak with RHS staff.

Does state law require parental consent?

Illinois does not require parental consent or notice.

Can health care providers (doctors, hospitals, nurses, clinics) refuse to perform abortions or refuse to give me information about them?

Yes. Individuals and institutions are allowed to refuse to provide abortions and those individuals or institutions are not required to give you information or referrals. RHS is committed to giving you all the information you want and need to make the best decisions for you.
